Benefit from Vehicle Databases
Basics
How can I change the data of my listing?
Select the listing from your Inventory that you want to change by clicking on the listing title. Now you are able to change each section of the listing by clicking on the ‘Change’ link next to the section concerned.
Step 1: Select Make & Model
What are the first steps to set up a listing?
Click Create Listings and select the type of vehicle that you would like to list. On the next page, you can enter the VRM and click Continue >. If you don’t have the VRM, you can select the Make and Model of your vehicle using the drop-down menus. Next, please type in the car's First Registration Date if available and press Continue >. Based on your information, extensive vehicle databases will complete most of the essential car specifications. You will still be able to make changes or add features that you consider necessary.
Why am I being asked for a Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM)
You can save time when listing a vehicle by looking up vehicle data and standard equipment information based on the VRM. Just enter the VRM in the box when prompted, click Continue > and eBay Motors Pro will do the rest. Remember to check the pre-filled details and to also describe the vehicle's condition.
I entered the VRM, but eBay Motors Pro didn't pre-fill any/ all of the vehicle's information. What's wrong?
In very rare circumstances, we won't have all the details for a particular vehicle. If this happens, you'll be asked to provide some or all of the vehicle data and standard equipment information yourself.
Once I've selected a Make & Model combination, can I change them?
No. However, you can always start the listing process again: just click on the Cancel button provided at the bottom-right of each page. Be aware that starting the process again will clear any vehicle data, standard equipment information or descriptions you may have entered for that listing.
I can’t find the Make and/or Model I am looking for. What should I do?
If you are missing a Make or Model while creating your listing, please inform Dealer Support by email or telephone using the details given under Contact Us.
Step 2: Vehicle Details & Description
Can I list my vehicle without eBay Motors Pro pre-filling vehicle data and standard equipment information for me?
Yes. You can simply select a make from the list to the right of the VRM. If you enter a registration date too, some details will still be pre-filled for you. Note that certain features won't be available to potential buyers on eBay.co.uk if you don't enter a Vehicle Registration Mark, which could deter them from contacting you.
How can I make the most out of the Title and Subtitle?
- You can provide both a Title and a Subtitle for a listing: they are displayed when eBay members search the site.
- You have 80 characters (letters, numbers and spaces) available for each: keep in mind that buyers don't search for words like 'wow' or 'look,' so use the limited space available for more descriptive words.
- You can't use HTML, quotes (' or ') or asterisks (*).
- Include your vehicle's make, model, derivative and year.
- Think of words that buyers might use to search for your car, like 'BMW', 'convertible', '4x4', but only include relevant words:
- Read about eBay's 'Keyword Spamming' Policy for more information.
When I list items on eBay.co.uk, I'm charged extra for using a Subtitle. Will I also be charged when creating listings with Subtitles on eBay Motors Pro?
No. Listings created through eBay Motors Pro don't incur a charge for a Subtitle.
How many characters can I use to describe my vehicle?
You can use up to 5,000 characters to describe each vehicle's specification and condition. Please note that you can't use HTML tags. Potential buyers on eBay.co.uk are used to reading descriptions before making contact or placing bids, so including some extra information will increase the number of leads you receive.
You can use up to 800 characters to describe your vehicle in the mobile description. This field is not mandatory. If you do not complete this field, eBay will automatically generate a mobile description from the content you provide in your full description.
Are there any rules governing the way I describe a car?
Yes. eBay.co.uk has a detailed set of listing policies to ensure a level playing field within the eBay online marketplace, and these policies also apply to listings created through eBay Motors Pro. Read about eBay's 'Rules & Policies'
My vehicle has a piece of standard equipment that is not included in the list - what should I do?
Please use Contact Us at the top of every page to send us an email with your suggestion. We'll read and consider every suggestion thoroughly.
What does setting a listing to be 'Unpublished' mean?
If you set a listing to be Unpublished, it will be visible to you in your Inventory, but will not appear to consumers on the eBay.co.uk site. You can still edit the listing from your Inventory.
What does 'Exclude From Bulk Uploads' mean?
Selecting this option will mean that this listing is not affected by any bulk upload sent to your account from you or a 3rd party provider.
Can I set a listing to be 'Unpublished' after I've completed the listing process?
Yes. You can change the settings of any listing in your Inventory.
Do I have to select 'Unpublished' every time I create a listing, or is there a default I can set somewhere?
There is a default setting found in Settings. Once you've made a change to these options, your entire Inventory, plus any new listings you create, will have the same settings.
I've set up some Default Text in Settings: do I have to include them in all my listings now?
No. While creating a listing, towards the end of Step 3 you can select or deselect the box corresponding to the Default Text you want to include/ exclude from your listing.
How can I edit or delete some of my Default Text?
Go to Settings > Default Text.
How many characters fit into my Default Text fields?
You are able to publish up to 3000 characters within each of the three Default Text fields Terms and Conditions, About Us, and Warranty.
I've changed some of the details in my Default Text. What happens to all the listings already uploaded to eBay.co.uk?
As soon as you change your Default Text, any eBay Motors Pro items on eBay.co.uk will be updated accordingly. It could take a couple of minutes for all changes to appear.
Can I preview my listing before I upload it to eBay.co.uk?
Yes. In the final step you can review all the data you have entered about your vehicle and preview it. When you're satisfied with your description you can submit it.
Step 3: Add pictures to your listing
How many pictures can I add to a listing, and how many is recommended?
You can add up to 20 pictures to each listing, and we recommend at least 6 to provide the best information to potential buyers on eBay.co.uk.
What kind of photos should I add to my listing?
Adding pictures to your listing helps you increase sales, gives your buyers a more accurate picture of what to expect, and distinguishes your listing from others of its kind. We recommend that you add multiple photos to your listing, as per example on the left, but do not use stock photos. All images uploaded to eBay should be at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side. They should have a quality of 90 or greater on the standard 0-99 JPEG quality scale. We'll then optimise them for display in your listing.
Photos should be taken from several vantage points:
- Exterior: diagonal, all four sides
- Interior: dashboard, seats
- Engine
- Odometer
- Close-ups of any dings, dents, stains, or other damage
Is it possible to change or delete pictures when I've finished Step 3?
Yes. You can change or delete pictures at any time, even when a listing is already visible on eBay.co.uk. Just go to your Inventory, choose the appropriate listing and click on the 'Change' link.
What is a Gallery Picture?
A gallery picture is a small version of your first picture, which appears alongside your listing Title and Subtitle when buyers search or browse eBay.co.uk. While the first picture you add to your listing is usually used as the Gallery Picture, you can change it.
Will I be charged for adding a Gallery Picture when creating listings through eBay Motors Pro?
No. Listings created through eBay Motors Pro don't incur a charge for Gallery Pictures.
Can I change the order of the pictures I've uploaded to my listing?
Yes, you can use drag and drop to reorder them. When finished click on 'Save New Order'.
Which types of pictures can I add to listings through eBay Motors Pro?
JPEG (.jpg)
Is there a maximum size of picture I can add?
Yes, there is a limit of 12 MB on each picture added to a listing on eBay Motors Pro.
The picture I want to upload exceeds the maximum size. What can I do?
If your pictures are larger than the maximum size, you should resize them using the software that came with your digital camera.
There’s lots of software you can download for free or you can use the ‘Paint’ program which is already installed on most PC’s.
- On Windows, click on the ‘Start’ menu at the bottom left of your screen
- Choose: All Programs > Accessories > Paint
- Click on: File > Open.
- Then select the image that you wish to resize.
- To resize the picture click on: Image > Stretch/Skew.
- Then change both Stretch percentages to 50% which will halve the size of your image.
- Make sure to save the resized image by clicking on: File > Save As
- Then choose the location to save your new resized picture.
Your picture should then be easily uploaded to eBay Motors Pro with no problems.
